Celebrate Every Moment
As tradition holds, the dawn of a new year signals us to use this time to start with a clean slate. It beckons us to replenish, tweak, rejuvenate and take stock on our inventory of life, love and career. It’s all part of the ritual de-clutter that we undertake while our priorities are realigned once more, thanks to another year of experiences, life lessons and moments under our belts.
We are celebrating our 10th anniversary this year. This year also marks the start of my fourth year with the magazine and 18 years in the business. Yes, there are lots of numbers here, but every single one means the world to me. It’s my internal tracking system when it comes to career growth and personal accomplishments. All these years are also poignantly dotted with momentous moments.
Sometimes, as an excuse, we wait for a magic number to celebrate. That shouldn’t be the case. Why wait for your 25th wedding anniversary to have a blowout celebration, when your 22nd, 23rd and 24th are equally as important? Same goes with daily occasions. It’s important that we celebrate every moment, big or small. Relishing in the daily celebrations with appreciation gives us the motivation to move forward towards our next goal and accomplishment and to create more memorable moments along the way.
Just like in every issue, we continue to celebrate the latest trends and hottest looks in the world of fashion (page 33) and beauty (page 57). While still being in the thick of the cold season we focus on winter hair care (Winter Hair Rescue, page 136) as well as show off the latest in outerwear (Urban Doll, page 48). The new year is also a good time to start collecting your keepsakes and we have nifty ways of doing just that (Gadgets, page 160). We continue to be conversation-starters with our hotbutton topics (The Solo-ists, page 156) where we address the increasing number of women (and men!) who choose to not get married or have kids, bucking the cultural expectations of the assumed next goal in one’s life. And of course we pop the balloon by addressing the all-important notion of having it all (All or Nothing, page 164) . . can we really?
And our piece de resistance is our Prestige List (page 65). Here, in the spirit of our 10th anniversary, we have our once-in-a-decade list of South Asian movers and shakers who in the past decade brought game-changing moments to their respective fi elds. They are notables that you may already be familiar with and if not, then we are here to tell you about them. They all share insights and personal details; proving that inspiration does come in many forms.
So let’s collectively celebrate 2013 with our yet-to-be-filled slates in hand; primed to balance and handle the onslaught of struggles, successes, failures and life lessons. And don’t leave anything out. It’s the ultimate collection that continues to paint the perfect picture all year long.
