Jagga Jasoos

To kick off our list of April Bollywood films, Jagga Jasoos is a much-anticipated picture with Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif that’s finally hitting the screens after many delays. It was said, for the most part, that the delays were due to arguments between former lovers Kapoor and Kaif. However, the director of the film, Anurag Basu, made a statement saying that after the success of Barfi! he decided to take some time out to spend with family before working on his next big project. The film follows Jagga, played by Kapoor, who has been curious about everything since his father was murdered when he was a child, and Shruti, played by Kaif, who helps Jagga work out who was behind his father’s death.
Sarkar 3
Director: Ram Gopal Verma
Cast: Amitabh Bachchan, Jackie Shroff, Manoj Bajpayee, Yami Gautam and Ronit Roy
Release Date: April 7th, 2017
This film is the third instalment of the much-loved Sarkar series, which started in 2005 with Sarkar and was followed by Sarkar Raj in 2008. Amitabh Bachchan takes on the lead role once again in this Indian political drama. The film stars Yami Gautam, who plays Annu, a character with a desire to take down the sarkar for killing his father.

Cast: Prosenjit Chatterjee, Yash Dasgupta and Nusrat Jahan

One is an upcoming Bengali action thriller. Following the success of Thani Oruvan, it was said that Shree Venkatesh Films would bankroll the next film. However, the project did not materialize until January 2017, when it was announced that Birsa Dasgupta was going to direct a film with Yash Dasgupta and Nusrat Jahan. At this time, Dasgupta was looking for an anti-hero for the film, and Prosenjit Chatterjee would play this role, described as “the hero in a negative role.”
Begum Jaan

Cast: Vidya Balan, Gauhar Khan and Naseeruddin Shah

Recently the poster for Begum Jaan came out, and it caused a major stir! Vidya Balan was portrayed on the front with a hookah pipe in her hand. The film is set in the late independence period of 1947, and Balan plays the madam of a brothel. The story is based on 11 prostitutes who refuse to give up their brothel during the partition of India and Pakistan.
Kaalakaandi

Cast: Saif Ali Khan, Sobhita Dhulipal and Kunaal Roy Kapur

This April Bollywood film stars Saif Ali Khan and is based on six characters — completely lost souls from different worlds but all based in Bombay. The story weaves between each protagonist, and they bump into each other over time as their fates clash.

This film is a Pakistani romance based on the character of Rehsam, a doctor on a journey to discover her past and future alongside her friends. The filming took over 40 days in northern areas of Pakistan.

Cast: Sonakshi Sinha, Karan Gill and Shibani Dandekar
Release Date: April 21st, 2017
This April Bollywood film with Sonakshi Sinha is based on Pakistani author Saba Imtiaz’s book Karachi, You’re Killing me! A Pakistani journalist navigates her way through the world’s most dangerous city, Karachi. She is sent to cover the most disgusting crimes on bomb sites and pick her way through masses of dead bodies. The film takes a slight twist as the Pakistani journalist actually finds herself in Mumbai rather than Karachi. The music was composed by Amaal Malik.
Baahubali: The Conclusion
Director: S.S. Rajamouli
Cast: Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Tamannaah Bhatia, Anuksha Shetty and Vivek Tiwari
Release Date: April 28th, 2017
Baahubali: The Beginning was released in July 2015. Originally, both this film and Baahibali: The Conclusion were produced together on a joint budget. However, Part 2 then got a higher budget and was shot and ready to release in 2017. The film is an epic historical picture and the first Indian film to be released in 4K high definition, which required many theatres to upgrade their projectors.
