Aishwarya Rai Bachchan closes out couture week by walking for Bollywood's fave designer, Manish Malhotra.
What a week it’s been for couturiers in India! Amazon India Couture Week took place in Delhi and ran from July 29 to August 2.
There was an unforgettable splash in the fashion scene — an intoxicating roundup of grade-A fashion, celebrity showstoppers and surprising collaborations. As each day unfolded, the fashion delights ended on an all-time high when the empress herself, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, walked the ramp for Manish Malhotra, who closed out the week in total ethereal glamour with his Empress Story couture collection 2015–16.

It’s been more than five years since the woman who was once referred to as "the most beautiful woman in the world" walked the ramp for the designer.
The event was held at an offsite location at The Leela Palace on Sunday. Manish's fame among the Bollywood fraternity was in full display from the turnout at the show. Kriti Sanon, Aditi Rao Hydari, Pernia Qureshi, Shabana Azmi and mother-in-law Jaya Bachchan were all in attendance.
Malhotra was influenced by his passion for reviving old Indian craftsmanship. The Empress Story line — which will debut in spring 2016 — will house limited editions of the Indian outfits seen in Western silhouettes. Highlights included voluminous gown-like lehenghas, floral and bird motifs and opulent hues such as silver, gold, burgundy and brown.
The designer told IANS, “2015 is a very special year for me as it marks 25 years as a costume stylist/director and 10 years of my label ‘Manish Malhotra’. What makes it even more special is Aishwarya returned to runway after five years as the showstopper for my show. She is a style icon. She is beautiful and stunning.”
Other celebs who made their show-stopping entrance on the ramp were:
The hues on display were white, gold, beige, midnight blue and a more sombre deep red. Models embodied seductive elves and were seen in low-cut backs and daring necklines, giving the collection a dose of sex appeal.
Titled Maharadja & Co., the collection appeared to pay homage to Indian royalty from olden days. Regal lehengas, capes and robes adorned in crystals were spotted on the runway in royal shades of golds and reds.
The accessory of choice was adorable matching parasols.
Our faves: the bold technicolour of the '70s and the stuble hues of the '90s.
He wrapped up with his take on today's fashion being a return to the traditional with a contemporary touch. Actress Chitrangada Singh took to the stage as his finale, glowing in a white and red floral lehengha.

Manav, known for showcasing opulence, did just that with his Le’amoureuse (beloved) collection. It was feminine to the core with no traces of dainty. Kangna made her showstopping entrance in a glittery gown that weighed 30 kilograms.
But Sabyasachi opened the couture week, and a Bollywood pretty face wasn’t what he opted for to bring his Bater collection to life. He joined forces with the famous French footwear guru Christian Louboutin to help elevate his rich hues, intricate embroidery, zardozi and resham work to a global fashion arena and worldwide awareness.
“Me and Christian Louboutin have a lot of friends in Bollywood. But he has dressed up some of the most beautiful women in the world and I think, for me, he was the showstopper.”
When asked about the show and his participation, Christian said, “It was a very beautiful collection. Of course, I knew the work of Sabyasachi Mukherjee, but I had never attended his show. It was a great experience. I barely attended any Indian fashion show and I loved the set and outfits.”
