Ajay Devgn and Kareena Kapoor attend UK Trailer Launch of UTV Motion Pictures’ Satyagraha
Entertainment Jul 04, 2013
On June 26, Ajay Devgn and Kareena Kapoor attended the official trailer launch of Satyagraha at the Taj, Buckingham Gate, St. James Park, London. Prakash Jha Productions and UTV Motion Pictures hosted the event. Satyagraha, which is directed by the acclaimed and well-known director, Prakash Jha stars an ensemble Bollywood cast. Among these stars are Amitabh Bachchan, Arjun Rampal, Manoj Bajpayee, Amrita Rao, Vipin Sharma, and of course Ajay Devgn and the “Fevicol-se”-starrer Kareena Kapoor.
At the London Press Conference, Ajay Devgn told the attendees, “Prakash has found a great balance between engaging the audience and, in spite of that, trying to say something which is very current and social. It is the film that works and every character has to work, and I think every character is very well balanced and it has come across well."
Kareena Kapoor also spoke of her role as a journalist in the film, "I have always wanted to work with Prakash-ji, and the role that he's offered me this time is the role of a journalist, which I haven't really essayed before. It's a very strong-headed but sensitive character and I couldn't say no. And, of course, being part of a film which is socially very relevant right now in our country is also a great honour." Adding about her character in the film, she continued further, "Playing the part of a journalist excited me. Their personalities are in some ways similar to mine because I am headstrong and quite sure about what I want. As a director's actress, I didn't really prepare as such for the role and I completely followed Prakash-ji's direction.” In an interview with Digital spy, Kapoor also informed, "Over the years looking at popular TV journalists, whether it was abroad or in India, be it Barkha Dutt or Christiane Amanpour, the way their personalities are. In some ways it was similar to mine because I'm quite headstrong and sure of what I want.”
Questioned how political film is, Kareena Kapoor told Moviefarm that “It’s not an illustration or documentary; it’s a movie. It will have a message and it will be dramatic and socially relevant. But we’re not kind of you know preaching or talking about philosophy or philosophers and what they actually said through this film.” Devgn responded similarly, “The bottom line is that the key message of the film is that you can’t just sit and open the newspaper in the morning and read about what’s happening. If you need to make the change, you need to make the change yourself. If you look at India 20 years back and you look at India today; it has changed a lot. And that is only because of literacy. That’s the only way change will happen and it is happening.”
The film releases worldwide on August 30th. Following the London Press Conference, Ajay Devgn and Kareena Kapoor and connected with Director Prakash Jha and Amitabh Bachchan. This was the first time India has participated in a Global Press Conference in which both actors were part of an international media dialogue from a different international territory.
