Evolution
The Oxford Dictionary defines it as “gradual development”.
It’s an integral part of human nature. Our gaze—like heat seeking missiles—is always transfixed in the distance scouting out chances to expand our knowledge, grow and adapt. We evolve by changing shoes, jobs and even spouses. We have evolved from eight-tracks to MP3s. VCRs to PVRs. Standard to HD. Makeovers are maddeningly part of our vernacular. Extreme or not, the need to evolve is engrained in our DNA.
With six grand years behind us, it’s time to take it to the next level. My dear, it’s time to shake things up.
As the new Editor-In-Chief, buoyed by my top-notch team, I am thrilled to be bringing you ANOKHI in HD. To those of you who have followed us from the Premiere Issue in November 2002, you will still find our unique take on celebrating everything fabulously South Asian, firmly intact. To those of you who have passed us by on the newsstand—curious, but not so sure—pick up a copy. I dare you. We all dare you.
We know your head turned when you noticed our eye-catching cover graced by Slumdog Millionaire’s leading lady Freida Pinto. And that—my fellow fashionphiles—is just a taste. Dive in and you’ll see Pulse, our new entertainment section giving you the latest scoop in the hottest beats, books and flicks. Our Fashion, Beauty and Style Sections are sizzling with the hottest trends straight from the fashion capitals. Explore your inner stylista with The Edge of The Storm (pg.48), and the beauty of emotion in Masquerade (pg.66). Our Wellness Section continues to bring you top tips for your mind, body and soul directly from our own team of experts. Percolator Ta lk has expanded into a features section taking an in-depth approach to hot button topics such as the economic crisis and it’s impact on the fashion industry (Couture Crunch pg.56). Of course there is always the not-to-be-missed über cool Sexy & Successful List. And finally, enjoy your all-access pass to the chicest soirees around the globe in GPS, our amplified events section. In short: you see a stronger, louder and hotter ANOKHI, while staying true to its spirit: providing a unique take away value for you, the reader. And trust me, there is plenty to take away from.
I must thank my fantastic staff that possesses the inimitable mix of talent and passion rarely seen during my 14 years in publishing. You will definitely see some changes and you’ll also see that it is indeed the same book. ANOKHI just grew up.
A special thanks goes to the formidable and oh-so-fabulous Raj Girn, who presented me with this chance of a lifetime. And of course a special tip of my felt chapeau to former founding Editor-in-Chief, Pamela Arora. ANOKHI’s mere existence is attributed to you both.
So go ahead and embrace the evolution. It’s electrifying. It’s sexy. It’s unique.
It’s ANOKHI.
