Fall/Winter 2015 Womenswear Trend Report: Prints, Lace & Stoles

The runways from New York and Milan Fashion Week offer a plethora of options and reasons to spruce up your wardrobe.

GLOBAL PRINTS

Prints are a favourite for every season, often shown in singular prints. Yet, for Fall/Winter 2015-16, designers Anna Sui and Etro show that while a cluster of prints can be bit overwhelming to the eyes, if done right, it’s a sight to see.

Anna Sui

Known for her free spirited style. Anna Sui’s Fall/Winter 2015 collection was inspired by the History channel show Vikings. Sui fused Mongolian art into her designs with the use of ornamental patterns mixed with images of nature. Her looks were layered with faux furs and decorative knits. Key pieces: A '70s inspired printed knit paired with a multi chocolate and cinnamon stole and a cherry floral dress.

Etro

Rich tones of deep mahogany, gold and cranberry was the colour palette for Veronica Etro’s Fall/Winter 2015 collection. A mix and match of patchwork tapestries and 3D prints looked luxurious against a bohemian luxe aesthetic and clean silhouettes. Key pieces: A low cut patchwork jumpsuit and a multi-print frock.

PEEK-A-BOO

The peek-a-boo lace trend made its way onto the runway for the Fall/Winter season whether the juxtaposition was to give us more than a peek or to use it subtly in their display. Lace is a sure bet for every woman’s wardrobe.

Rodarte

Birds and disco was the inspiration behind Laura and Kate Mulleavy’s F/W 15 collection. A whirlwind of feathers and sequins were seen throughout the designs and Edwardian-style lace blouses and skin-tight leggings paired well with a leather booty short and a disco sequined blouse. A very lust-worthy collection for the season. Key pieces: All the lace blouses and leggings.

The use of Victorian lace was complementary to Joseph Altuzarra’s F/W 2015 collection. White lace was prevalent yet elegant providing a mixture of demure and a sex-kitten attitude on the runway. Lace blouses were high-necked and well-suited with mid calf-length skirts while full on lace dresses faired well on their own. Key pieces: A lace peplum two-piece ensemble and a black lace bodysuit.

FUR STOLES

When the fur stole trend picked up this season one starts to wonder, how on earth do I work this into my wardrobe? A bit of doozy but definitely not a deterrent to keep you from purchasing one. Faux or real fur stoles are thing this season and the Jason Wu and Michael Kors collections show us how it’s done.

Jason Wu

Wu's collection of fur stoles were eye-catching in deep tones of aqua blue and olive and added a heightened level of sophistication to his super luxe sportswear designs.
