Get summer ready with our direct-from-the-runway hair trends with these tips!
This summer, it’s time to get in touch with your inner grunge kid. The season’s runway hair trends are all about edgy meets chic, sleek meets laid-back and the girl-next-door look meets her inner rock goddess. Check out three runway hair trends below and find out how to recreate the looks at home.
The Wet Look

Grunge meets chic with this go-to look of the summer 2016 season. Runways were full of the wet look, from the slicked back to looks with just a hint of drizzle. This hair trend was centre stage at spring/summer 2016 shows like Kenzo and Missoni. Pallavi Mohan took a more subtle approach for Amazon India Fashion Week.
To get the look, start with straight hair. Use a product like Frizz Ease Extra Strength 6 Effects + Serum ($11.47 CDN) on damp hair to keep hair tame and smooth.

Follow this by blow-drying hair and straightening with a flat iron. Brush hair back and away from the face. Use a fine-tooth comb to tease hair around the roots — don’t overdo it because you want hair to remain quite sleek.
Spray L’Oreal Professionnel's Wet Domination Shower Shine ($25.50 CDN) around the top of the head. This product can be layered, so use as much or as little as you like depending on the look you are going for. If you want a more dramatic wet look, opt for L’Oreal Professionnel’s Wet Domination Extreme Splash ($25.50 CDN). Apply this gel formula to just the hair on the top of your head. Finish off with a strong hold hairspray if needed.

The “Pun”

The casual messy bun just got a whole lot easier to achieve. The Pun, a hybrid of the ponytail and bun, is the perfect laid back summer look — it’s easy, simple and was all the rage on the runway. The pun made appearances at Bottega Veneta, 3.1 Phillip Lim and Balenciaga’s runway shows. Most recently, Ciara sported the look on the Billboard Music Awards red carpet.
“It’s the way a very real woman would do her hair,” Redken’s global creative director Guido said of the Bottega Veneta look.
He told Cosmopolitan UK how to achieve the look at home.
First, spray dry hair with Redken’s Wind Blown 05 Dry Finishing Spray ($23.23 CDN) to provide weightless volume. Take hair in just above the nape of the neck and pull hair halfway through the elastic to get the loop. To amp it up, give yourself a rough, jagged part.

Side Braids
Mackage SS16

Braids are always a staple for the spring/summer season. This year, runway shows featured everything from peekaboo mini plaits, to double French braid pigtails, rope braids and half halos. One of my personal favourites this season is the side braids. This look gets some of your hair out of the way, and gives you that edgy rocker-chic look without actually having to shave half your head.
Jorge Joao created this look for Mackage’s spring/summer 2016 show at World Mastercard Fashion Week in Toronto.
To start, let your hair dry naturally and give yourself an off-centre part. One on side, create four french braids. Increase or decrease this number depending on how thick or small you want the braids to be. Tuck the ends underneath the hair on the other side of your head. Spray Redken’s Heat Styling Iron Shape 11 Finishing Thermal Spray ($26.65 CDN) on the remaining hair.

With a flat iron, create a bend in the hair — wrap the middle section of each lock around the iron and hold for several seconds. Finish off with a spritz of Redken’s Fashion Waves 07 Texturizing Sea Salt Spray ($22.51 CDN) to add texture.
