I have a huge love for curls. Start by plugging hot rollers in. I love the ones by Conair because they don’t damage the hair. Allow to heat up. In the meantime, wash your face and moisturize. This will give cream and lip balm time to absorb. Spray hair with a heat tamer spray such as the one by Tresemme. Not only does it protect hair from heat, it holds curls, gets rid of frizz and smells great. I also love that it has a protective lock to prevent spills.

With a tail comb, start backcombing the crown for a little added volume. Gently roll the hot roller (be careful not to burn yourself) from the underside upwards, starting with the middle top of your head. Remember that that bigger the roller, the looser the curl. Make sure that the ends of your hair are smooth and secure to prevent the “hook” look. Secure with a pin or a clip. Continue doing this in a “brick layer” pattern until the whole head is finished. Gently spray with hairspray all over. While your hair is setting, you can begin makeup.

Primers have recently become very popular, and with good reason. They minimize lines, prepare the skin for even makeup application and allow for makeup to stay flawless for hours. Apply primer all over your face and neck and use your fingers – the warmth helps with blending. I love the Skinperfect Primer with SPF 30 by Dermalogica. Silicones brighten the skin, while pearl powder and natural earth minerals provide a neutral tint to even skin tone. No colours or fragrance are added.

Next, apply foundation. You can use your fingers or a foundation brush. My favorite is the one by Cover FX as the bristles are very soft yet densely populated which give an airbrush like quality. Using upward circular strokes, blend into your skin making sure to include your neck, ears and hairline. Set with powder.

Use blush to get a romantic rosy glow, like this one from M.A.C. The darker your skin tone, the more vibrant the blush can be. Swirl your blush brush and shake off remnants. Apply to the apples of the cheeks as you smile in an upward, circular motion. Make sure the application is well blended and even.

Premade eye shadow palettes are all the rage right now. I love the ones by Clinique, like the All About Eyeshadow Quad. The colours work so well together and come with instructions to boot!

Curling lashes is key to making eyes pop! Nothing beats the Shu Uemura New Generation eyelash curler. Ladies, do not be afraid, this tool does wonders. So tiny with perfect precision and pinch free!

Apply mascara using a zigzag motion from root to tip. For added drama, let dry and layer another coat. Hypnose by Lancome is truly amazing. Deep black pigments make eyes look whiter and brighter while the flexible wand is foolproof.
