LONDON, U.K.
For the first time in the United Kingdom, top designers from India and Pakistan got together to showcase the best of traditional and contemporary South Asian high-end fashion. The Faisana Fashion Weekend took place from May 2 to 3 at the Mayfair Hotel in London. Indian designers Anita Dongre, Rina Dhaka, Bhairavi Jaikishan and Pakistani designers Umar Sayeed, Nida Azwer and Sania Maskatiya presented their fashion lines which were similar yet had a distinctive style representing each nation. Rina Dhaka opened the show with her signature collection that had a mix of romance and colour. Anita Dogre’s collection, titled Jaipur Bride, was inspired by India’s architectural magnifi cence and included a lot of exquisite embroidery combined with dashing shades of orange or pink. Sania Maskatiya’s collection, titled Kuamka: Awakening, took inspiration from African tribal patterns and Bhairavi Jaikishan’s collection was inspired by the English summer. Nida Azwer chose to showcase vintage design elements which featured handworked outfits from Pakistan. Umar Sayeed gave an ultra-modern touch to traditional Pakistani attires. Celebrities at the event included Bollywood actress Madhoo, singing sensation Kanika Kapoor and Indian model and VJ Nina Manuel.
