I know a lot of women who put hair removal on the backburner the minute shorts and bikini weather disappears, I’m not one of them. Although I pack on the layers when I’m heading outside, I love the feeling of having smooth, stubble-free skin underneath. The only difference now is that I’m much less willing to venture out in the cold for a salon appointment. I’m sure a lot of you can relate. Thankfully, there are quite a few hair removal products in the market today that actually work to give you salon results right at home.
WAXING
I used to be skeptical of pre-wax strips, until I tried Nair Brazilian Spa Clay Easy to Use Wax Strips. You warm the strips up by rubbing them between your hands and they work just as well as hot wax, but less painful. The package also comes with moisturizing towelettes to moisturize the waxed area and remove any leftover residue.

Parissa Chamomile Body Sugar works just like wax but because it’s made from sugar, it washes off a lot easier than wax does, which is nice when you’re doing it yourself, have you ever tried to pull off a wax strip with sticky fingers? The kit comes with two different sized applicator sticks, plus a tube of moisturizing oil to apply when you’re done. From one package, I can usually do both of my full arms twice, so one box goes a long way.

I’ve found that Persian Cold Wax Washable Hair Remover works the best on areas with coarser hair, like bikini and underarms. It warms with your own body heat so, unlike hot wax, you won’t get burned. I especially appreciate the fact that it doesn’t make a mess and even if you do manage to spill some or have leftover wax on your skin, it washes off really easily.

WAXING TIP: For the best results, take a hot shower and exfoliate the area being waxed, which softens your skin, opens up the pores, and removes dead skin cells. Also, avoid using a thick, oily moisturizer before a waxing session, the wax won’t pull the hairs out as well.
CREAMS
Veet Spray On Hair Removal Cream is probably one of the quickest and easiest depilatory creams out there. You don’t even have to spread it around, just spray it on, wait a couple minutes and use the spatula provided to wipe off the hair.

For at-home facial hair removal, you want to use a formula that’s actually designed for your face. Products designed for body hair can sometimes be too harsh for your face, which can cause irritation. I use Olay Smooth Finish Facial Hair Removal Duo. It comes with the hair removal cream and a protective balm that you apply first to prevent irritation. You can either get it for fine to medium hair, or medium to coarse hair and one bottle usually lasts for about 10 to 12 uses.

HAIR REMOVAL CREAM TIP: One bad experience with a hair removal cream has taught me that you should always do a patch test before applying it over a large area to make sure you don’t end up with a painful, unsightly reaction to the product.
SHAVING
The biggest downside of shaving is that you can end up with annoying ingrown hairs. You can get rid of them quickly and easily with Bliss Ingrown Eliminating Pads. They’re soaked in green tea and oat extract so they smooth and soothe while the hydroxyl acids work to get rid of nasty bumps.

The key to a good shave is having the right razor. My personal favorite is the Gillette Venus & Olay Razor. It has five blades that are surrounded by Olay moisture bars. I find shaving dries my skin out a lot, so it’s nice to get a little extra moisture wherever I can. Plus, the built-in soap works wonders for preventing nicks and cuts.

I don’t usually endorse dry shaving but let’s be honest, sometimes it just happens. That’s why I love eos Ultra Moisturizing Shave Cream (preferably in the Pomegranate Raspberry scent.) You can use it to shave both dry and wet because it doesn’t foam and contains natural moisturizing ingredients like shea butter, aloe and vitamins C and E. On top of leaving your skin feeling smooth, it’s pretty reasonably priced, which is always nice.

SHAVING TIP: Get a closer shave by doing it towards the end of a hot shower when both your skin and your body hair is softer.
