Hrithik Roshan & A. R. Rahman: First Two Indian Celebrities To Join Radio Everyone
Entertainment Jul 15, 2015
Bollywood steps in to partner with Global Citizen Festival 2015 to end extreme poverty.
The most ambitious global campaign to date — The Global Goals Campaign, the brainchild of Richard Curtis — is gearing up to make history this September. 193 world leaders will come together to end extreme poverty, fight inequality and tackle climate change with Bollywood hero Hrithik Roshan and music maestro A. R. Rahman.
The Indian megastar and double Academy Award winner are the first two Indian personalities confirmed to be hitting the radio airwaves in September. They'll join Radio Everyone as part of the global campaign’s aim to reach 7 billion people in seven days.
The Bollywood hero Roshan will take on a role as one of Radio Everyone’s global communicators, while music guru A. R. Rahman will join other global musicians — including Cody Simpson, D’Banj, Ice Prince and 2Face Idibia — to help the cause. The goal is to make the movement a success using the world’s most accessible medium (radio) to spotlight the UN’s Global Goals for Sustainable Development project. This set of targets hopes to eradicate the world’s biggest problems by 2030. Reaching the masses with famous personalities, whose participation helps the campaign appeal to listeners, is ingenious. Who better to appeal to the Indian demographic than one of the world’s most renowned composers, singer-songwriters, musicians and philanthropists as well as one of India’s A-list actors with superstar looks to match?
From India to Brazil, Nigeria to Indonesia, Radio Everyone will also feature a segment titled "Global Superheroes," where iconic global personalities will share incredible stories from everyday folk.
Radio Everyone will launch on September 26 at the Global Citizen Festival, a free ticketed event at Central Park in New York City. This year’s headliners are Ed Sheeran, Coldplay and Pearl Jam.
July 8, NYC: Chris Martin, Richard Curtis, Amina Mohammed and Hugh Evans celebrate the launch of the 2015 Global Citizen Festival line-up and partnership with Radio Everyone, part of the campaign to make the UN Global Goals for Sustainable Development famous.
In regard to the festival and Radio Everyone, Richard Curtis explains, “Our aim is to gather an amazing volume of extraordinary radio content about The Global Goals and then pulse it across the world to everybody on the planet that listens to radio. We want to do this in the seven days after the Goals are adopted by 193 world leaders at the United Nations. By getting The Goals into people’s hearts and minds — and ears! — we can inspire the next generation of Global Citizens to be the first generation that ends extreme poverty, the most determined to tackle inequalities and the last to live with the effects of climate change.”?
For Listeners around the globe, Radio Everyone will be accessible via globalgoals.org as well as select national radio stations. Broadcasters around the world have been signing up to air content provided by Radio Everyone from September 26 to October 2, 2015. India’s largest FM station, 92.7 BIG FM, is the first radio station to sign up in India. 92.7 BIG FM airs across 45 cities, 1,200 towns and 50,000+ villages. Its weekly reach of 4.2 crore (40,200,000) listeners across India makes the multi-award winning station a great platform to showcase Radio Everyone’s global message.
Other broadcasters that have signed up to support the campaign are BBC Music in the United Kingdom, WNYC & Public Radio International in the United States, Ray Power FM in Nigeria, SABA and its members across 15 countries, Radio Romania, Radio2 Rai in Italy, the Mercury Media Group in Indonesia and Deutsche Welle internationally.
