With an increase in South Asian-created content for us to choose from (and root for!) we’ve put together our ideal binge-watching list. It’s the perfect time to discover and rediscover (aaah the beauty of binge-watching) some serious pop cultural gems. Check out our list of 7 South Asian shows that you need to binge-watch now.

South Asian content is hot and happening on Netflix. Last year, the streaming giant partnered with Bollywood King Shah Rukh Khan to distribute his films from his production company Red Chillies. But now more original content led by South Asians is taking over the scene and you’ll see more brown folks on your binge-watch sesh.

The Mindy Project

After years bouncing around from cable to streaming this acclaimed series has now landed on Netflix which means that if you lost track of her goings-on because you couldn’t keep track on where to catch it, this is your perfect chance to sit back and catch up on all the romantic situations that only Mindy can get herself into.

Love Per Square Foot

An original film that was made for Netflix and which I really enjoyed watching was Love Per Square Foot. It follows a young couple who can’t afford a house in the bustling city of Mumbai. They enter into a marriage of convenience to buy a house. The film is produced by Ronnie Screwvala and directed by Anand Tiwari, starring Vicky Kaushal and newcomer Angira Dhar.

Aditi Mittal

Aditi Mittal rated as one of the top 10 comedians by Times of India is one of the first Indian female comedians to make her name on the stand-up scene on Netflix. Her series The Things They Wouldn’t Let Me Say is hilarious as she makes references to Bollywood and how it feels being an Indian single girl in her 30s.

Buried Alive

Netflix also produced two of Ansari’s stand-up specials Buried Alive and Live at Madison Square Garden. In Buried Alive, he shares his unfiltered views on adulthood, babies, marriage, love and more in the modern era. If you have read his book, you know what to expect. In the latter film, he gives his two cents on immigration, relationships and his hilarious take on the food industry.

Master of None

And if by some small chance you still haven’t seen an episode of this Emmy-winning rom-com co-created by and starring Aziz Ansari well now is the perfect time. Even rediscovering Master of None makes for a perfect binge-watching session. It hilariously tackles immigrant parents, religion, and how Indians are portrayed on TV.

Homecoming King

This critically-acclaimed stand-up comedy is Hasan Minhaj’s first stand-up special as he shares personal stories about racism, immigrant parents and even prom night horror stories. Using his charm he makes his stories relatable to all. This special also serves as an excellent primer so you can prepared to take in his upcoming weekly Netflix chat show which begins in July just he finishes his correspondent work on The Daily Show.

Abroad Understanding

Vir Das’s stand-up special Abroad Understanding takes over New York and Delhi as he talks about globalism, good food and bad politics.
