Fashion Designer
Fashion designer extraordinaire, Vikram Phadnis is hip, stylish and the toast of the fashion glitterati. He incidentally started his Bollywood career as a choreographer, before rising to fame as a fashion designer. Although Phadnis does not have any formal training in the profession, clearly he has an eye, as his designs have been worn by some of the biggest names in the entertainment world, from Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, John Abraham and Akshay Kumar to screen stalwarts Amitabh Bachchan and Anil Kapoor. Phadnis’s style is best described as avant-garde with an Indian twist, and can be worn by the girl next door or the queen of the catwalk. His Mumbai-based boutique is chock full of couture—Indian and Western designs for his both male and female fashionistas. His creations are also sold globally, in countries such as South Africa, the U.S, and the U.A.E. He has worked as a costume designer for many popular Bollywood films, including Biwi No. 1, Salaam-e-Ishq, Hulchul and Namastey London. He also is a fixture on the fashion circuit, having showcased his creations at Durban Fashion Week, Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai, and other shows across India, Malaysia and the Middle East. Phadnis also has received many accolades for his work, including an IIFA Best Designer Award for Hrithik Roshan’s film Mujhse Dosti Karoge and the Young Achievers Award from the Government of Maharashtra, India. Last year, you saw his designs in Salman Khan’s Dabang. Fashion doesn’t stop for Phadnis, as he eventually hopes to direct his own films as well, and is currently working on a script for a romantic comedy.
