Brittany Wielgosz, Luxe Glow Owner And Beauty Expert, Offers Tips For Keeping Your Skin Healthy During The Chilly Winter Months
Winter season usually results in dry, flaky skin so to combat the inevitable, here are few tips to keep your skin healthy during the winter months.
Microdermabrasion
This is a process that uses microcrystals from a natural mineral to remove dead skin cells from the skin's surface. In removing a layer of the epidermis, microdermabrasion triggers the skin’s repair and regeneration mechanisms, prompting the skin to produce more collagen and elastin proteins. The procedure restores radiance, removes skin cells, refines pores, accelerates skin renewal, stimulates collagen and elastin production and increases dermal density. It's the most comfortable treatment on the market and it can be used on broken capillaries. Plus, it has total control over abrasion depth.
Purelight for hyperpigmentation
As South Asian skin tends to be more susceptible to hyperpigmentation, the Green LED Purelight therapy is an excellent treatment option. Purelight treatments are a new, non-invasive approach to maximizing facial treatments by respecting the skin's physiology. The Green LEDs at 525 nm for hyperpigmentation are absorbed by water in the skin's basal layer. Water produces hydrogen peroxide and lightens spots from the inside out. Light reduces tyrosinase activity by 50%.
This technique, combined with microdermabrasion, helps to improve the skin's texture and appearance. The recommended treatment timeline is six to twelve treatments over a five-week period, then once a month for maintenance.
Unlike intense pulsed light (IPL) and lasers that rely on thermal injury to prompt the skin to repair itself, Purelight's light-emitting diodes (LEDs) don't produce any heat. Rather, they stimulate the skin's naturally occurring regeneration and repair processes.
Purelight will reduce problems caused by active sebaceous glands and increase collagen production in the skin to keep it smoother and healthier-looking for longer.
SugarBrig hair removal
South Asian women tend to invest more in hair removal, and though IPL is a popular treatment, it can leave thermal damage, burns and scarring. Since regular waxing is painful and outdated, SugarBrig is the perfect alternative. It provides a safer method of hair removal, is 100 per cent natural and does not break the hairs or rip the skin. You can even eat it, as it’s an organic and natural formula.
DIY body scrub
As the temperature begins to drop, we find our skin to be more on the drier side, and an exfoliating scrub is the perfect thing to keep your skin glowing! You can create a great, DIY and 100 per cent natural scrub in the kitchen! Brittany’s favourite simple recipe is to whip together a scrub using only two ingredients from the kitchen: coconut oil and sugar. Combine refined sugar (not coarse) with oil in a bowl to make a tick paste, and voilà — dead skin, be gone!
Natural skin care beauty regimen
As the holidays are fast approaching and the New Year is on the horizon, it's time to really think about your skin care routine. Make a resolution to ditch the chemicals and swap your skin care products for 100 per cent natural treatments. Brittany’s favourite is the Consonant Skincare line, which is 100 per cent natural and easily accessible.
