Tips To Survive Black Friday Shopping
Black Friday is the most anticipated shopping event of the year with over 140 million Americans expected to go shopping both in-stores and online the day after Thanksgiving. After celebrating Thanksgiving with a delicious over-indulgent turkey dinner, Black Friday is a perfect excuse to lose some of those calories fighting for those anticipated deals that have been long awaited the entire year.
Toronto shopping expert, Theresa Quick, the Serious shopper offers up tips to the weary shopper to help ease the process and bag the best deals:
Get Your Head In The Game
It always pays to plan ahead.
Quick recommends that as a smart shopper, you should have a strategy before you even enter the mall or a shopping departmental store on Black Friday. She says, “Pre-plan your visit to the sale by checking out the website and make a list of your favourite exhibitors. As soon as you enter the sale, check the map and start with the brands you love. The sooner you get to those vendors, the better finds you will score.”
Dress The Part
Shopping can take longer if you are not dressed properly for it, especially when you have dresses, jeans, or any clothing to try on. It can take up valuable time and can be used to save money on more deals. Quick suggests, “you’ll want to dress comfortably in light layers such as camisole and leggings to skip the dressing room line-ups. Wear comfy slip-on shoes to trek the concrete walls of the warehouse in comfort. Don’t forget a cross body bag, you’ll want to keep your hands free while you scoop up deals.”
Know Your Sample Sale Vocab
Did you know that there is a difference between a designer stock and overstock? Quick explains, “There is a difference between a designer sample and overstock. A designer sample is part of few exclusive pieces made by the designer (usually in size 2 or 4) created for the model to wear at fashion shows or to be sent to potential buyers. Overstock samples are ready for retail merchandise (in a variety of sizes) that is left over from current or past seasons.”
Bring A Wing-Woman
These sales tend to be final and non-refundable. Hence, you should exercise caution when purchasing clothes. Try on the clothes and take a selfie of yourself to better aid your decision. Better yet, Quick advises, “Bring an honest friend along with you as your fashion wing-woman. She’ll tell you if it looks good or not."
Now you've got the survival guide, what are you waiting for, get shopping!!
