Meet the 17-year-old Pakistani-American schoolboy who will be the youngest person ever to fly around the world in 30 days.
Haris Suleman, the 17-year-old boy, and his father, Babar Sulemon, set out in a single-engine plane from Indiana, U.S., to fly around the world to raise funds for The Citizens Foundation schools in Pakistan.
By the means of this trip, they are raising money and awareness to help educate children in Pakistan living in the worst slums. There are more than 240, 000 public schools in Pakistan, most of which don’t even have toilets or electricity. Haris's family migrated from Pakistan to the U.S. in the '80s, and supporting education initiatives like this one has been important to the teenager and his father.
The charity they are supporting,The Citizens Foundation, recently celebrated the opening of its 1000th school. The non-profit organization builds primary and secondary schools in the nation’s most desperate communities, striving to have an equal amount of girls and boys in each classroom and a full female faculty.
Pending weather conditions, Haris and his father aim to stop in Canada, Iceland, England, Greece, Egypt, Pakistan, Indonesia, Australia, Fiji, American Samoa, Kitibati, Hawaii and California.
Babar said, "He [Haris] will be the pilot in command. I will only take over the controls in an emergency situation. If all goes well, my son will be going back to school for his senior year with some tall tales to tell."

"Haris is not going solo," said Babar. "But no 17-year old pilot-in-command has ever done this so far, so he gets to hold that record. The second record is to attempt to do it in 30 days, depending on the weather."
Haris, who has been flying with his father since he was a toddler and flying supervised since around the age of eight, will be the youngest to accomplish this goal.

Before going on the trip, they made sure to take every precautionary step in case of an emergency, going as far as to participate in a sea survival course to learn what to do in the event that they end up in the water. More than half of their trip involves flying over huge expanses of water, including the Atlantic, Pacific and parts of the Indian Ocean.
