IPL Opens With A Glittering Ceremony in Abu Dhabi; KKR Beats MI In The Opening Match
The controversial Indian Premier League of late went international this year with the opening ceremony in being held in Abu Dhabi. The event saw a usual high dose of cricket and entertainment. The who’s who of cricket world and Bollywood Badshah, Shah Rukh Khan along with the gorgeous Deepika Padukone came together under one roof to open one the extravagant sports event.
The event began with a welcome note by Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Culture, Youth & Community Development, in which he spoke of the UAE’s determination as a nation to move forward in the sporting field.

A light and sound show depicting the traditions and cultures of UAE and India highlighted the bond between the two nations. Ravi Shastri, the host for the evening, invited the eight IPL captains to vow their allegiance to maintain the integrity of cricket by signing the MCC Spirit of Cricket plaque.
Later, former cricketer and interim President, BCCI-IPL, Sunil Gavaskar delivered a passionate speech about maintaining the sanctity of the game and BCCI’s intent to take every possible measure to eradicate the very shadow of corruption from the sport. He also appealed to the cricket fans all over the world to maintain their faith in cricket despite the scandals that had erupted and almost threatened the end of IPL.
Despite the controversies, players from all eight team teams were seen enjoying the show. Deepika Padukone mesmerized the audience with her dance moves. Kolkata Knight Riders co-owner Shah Rukh Khan was at his wittiest best while taking a dig at the cricketers. The actor had the audience in splits with his trademark sense of humour and, if that wasn't enough, the evening saw a spectacular show of fireworks.

IPL’s opening match saw Kolkata Knight Riders beating Mumbai Indians by 41 runs. Thanks to Jaques Kallis’ knock of 72 runs, KKR sailed to a massive 41 run victory in the opening match. Defending champions Mumbai Indians could not contain fireball Jaques Kallis as he smashed boundaries leading KKR into its first win of the season.

KKR Skipper Gautam Gambhir fell to Malinga’s attack. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians looked comfortable at the third wicket partnership but could not make enough runs to end the match with a win. With this victory, KKR reaches the top of the points table.
