CBC Launches ‘South Asian Mix’ Free Radio Stream
Canada's CBC Music adds South Asian Music to its roster with the aid of Raoul Juneja aka Deejay Ra to form its first South Asian Music station.
Canada’s national public broadcaster CBC has joined hands with Hip Hop artist, producer, promoter and activist Raoul Juneja to present their own South Asian web station: South Asian MIX. The station is a part of CBC’s existing line of online streams and is set to cover South Asian artists extensively from newcomers to established artists.
Blending Hip hop, R&B with Indian inspired music, you'll find some of the best South Asian artists; Canada based Raghav and JoSH, Britain’s Apache Indian and Rishi Rich featured here.
“CBC Music is pleased to launch this new South Asian web station, and connect with a community with such a diverse and rich music culture,” said Mark Steinmetz, Director of Music Programming for English Services. “This is an amazing way for CBCMusic.ca showcase some of the greatest talent both nationally and internationally. Having Raoul work with us to produce the station has given us a deeper look into the musical talent we have in our country.”
Raoul has been instrumental in guiding the station to find the best South Asian artists and leading them through the rich musical heritage of India. Raoul’s teaming up with CBC music was first announced at the ANOKHI's 11th Anniversary Event by CBC News Toronto co-host Anne-Marie Mediwake. When asked about his vision behind ‘SouthAsianMIX,’ Raoul said, "not only has Canada produced some of the most talented South Asian music artists from all genres, but these artists have also become some of the most successful independent Canadian artists worldwide. I am honoured to be working with CBC Music to provide a radio station where our contemporary South Asian artists can be celebrated amongst our community, and also showcased to Canadians at large."

Raoul who was awarded with our ANOKHI Magazine’s 2014 Excellence in Music Media Award later quiped, “Having Anne-Marie Mediwake present my ANOKHI Award to me at this point in my career, with so many of my colleagues and peers in attendance, means more to me than any Honours or Master's Degree ceremony ever could have. Hard to say what's next when I waited so long to get to do what I'm doing every day – I'm just enjoying this moment in time!”
An accomplished artist, Raoul as produced numerous projects through his award winning Lyrical Knockout Entertainment company, including a chart-topping Canadian rap album distributed through Universal Music Canada and an anti-gang documentary featuring Oscar winner Jamie Foxx. With an illustrated career in Radio and TV, Raoul’s stint with CBC Music is going to be a treat for South Asian Music Lovers. With an assortment of South Asian music plugged in anytime anywhere, listeners are in for a musical odyssey on #SouthAsianMIX.
