This holiday season, as you host parties and get-togethers for your friends and family, make sure you welcome them in a healthy, happy home.
Here are six steps to a dust and toxin free home by Robin Wilson, president of Robin Wilson Home in New York City and an interior designer working with a notable list of celebrities and non-celebrities as well. She is also an ambassador for the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America.
Don’t Throw Those Newspapers Away
After you’ve enlightened yourself for the day through the headlines of your morning newspaper, its utility ends for you, right? Well, now it won’t. You can use it to clean your windows instead. Spray them with your regular cleaner and wipe them with the newspaper for a fresh shine.
Many of us don’t know that the newsprint has high absorbency. It absorbs the liquid instead of repelling it which increases its efficiency manifold. However, watch out for the moldings and trim as paper shouldn’t be used on them.
Ho, ho, ho, Make Way For Santa!
This Christmas, clean your chimneys before you wait for Santa to get you presents.
A dirty chimney is a fire hazard and can welcome toxins rather than Santa. You should also check that your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors have new batteries and are working properly.
Get The Right Lights
If you’re hosting a lot of parties these holidays, switch to LED lighting.
Not only will it keep a check on your electricity bills, it’ll ensure safety from fire as well as it’s not a fire hazard. Also, children will find these lights cool to touch.
To top it all, these are excellent choices for both regular lighting and Christmas lights.
Say Goodbye To Toxins
As you shut yourself in this winter to avoid the cold weather, make sure you don’t have toxins for company.
Since everything in your house, particularly doors and windows are mostly sealed up, you should use non-toxic cleaners during the winter months.
Seek Professional Assistance For Your Sofa
Did you know that your couch is a hub for a variety of allergens, mold and bacteria? You need to be even more careful if you have pets in the house.
We’re sure you don’t want periodic sneezes while having a good time with your loved ones. Plus, we don’t need to tell you the appeal of a sparkling clean sofa for your guests or for the couch potato in your home.
So for its deep cleaning, don’t shy away from taking professional help.
Go For Hypoallergenic Bedding
If you have guests staying over, getting hypoallergenic comforters and pillows is a great idea especially if the guests have asthma or allergies. You should also change linen before the guests arrive so that the rooms look and smell fresh.
So, before you invite guests these holidays, make sure you’re prepared to welcome them in a home filled with health and happiness.
