This year, MTV along with an abundance of celebrity talent all headed to Amsterdam to mark the MTV European Music Awards or EMA's. From Katy Perry to Eminem, there were winners, performances and just plain old controversies.
From the pre-show red carpet, which was hosted by Laura Whitmore and Louise Roe, we bring you some of the styles that stood out.
Shanina Shaik rocked a leggy gold number while Katy Perry sported an unusual subdued, 'pretty girl next door' blue dress, the below the knee, cleavage free dress was paired with a hairband – cute but not what we'd expect the sassy singer to be wearing at the EMA's. Irish TV presenter, Laura Whitmore wore an adorable black and white peplum, fall 2013 dress by Fyodor Golan. Can't believe we're saying this but thank the lord for Miley Cyrus who brought her cheeky funk to the red carpet, bringing us back from a snooze. The controversial chick did it again by showing plenty of skin with thigh-high boots. Her low-cut dress was covered with a graffiti collage of the late Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G. emblazoned with the slogan: Stop Violence. If Miley was trying to get a message across it sure worked.

Aside from outfit hit and misses, there were many big wins at the EMA's this year and a lot of them were newcomers to the scene. Austin Mahone, often labelled ‘The Next Bieber’ won best push. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis won best new artists and One Direction continues soaring to the top as they grabbed the trophy for the best pop category. There were still many familiar faces, Katy Perry won best female, Beyonce won best live and Justin Bieber won best male.

The big win of the night was Eminem who was awarded with global icon and best hip-hop act on the same day he bagged his seventh consecutive No. 1 UK album with The Marshall Mathers LP 2. The winner took to the stage to perform 'Berzerk' and 'Rap God', two tracks from his new album.
Shock-pop starlet, Miley Cyrus didn't disappoint her fans either when she took things to a whole new level onstage. The singer who has been all over the tabloids the past few months for her crazy shenanigans has done it once again. To top off another crazy performance with ‘We Can't Stop’, that included twerking in a spacesuit with a female dwarf, Miley lit up a joint on stage too. MTV apparently found the act so offensive that they censored it in the version that aired in the USA. Miley, either apparently thought it was no big deal, or just wanted to spark a bit of hullabaloo, no doubt succeeded in stirring the pot, that's for sure.

Talking about entertaining moments we can't not mention the host of the night, Redfoo who kept the event alive with his fun wardrobe changes that included hitting the stage in his speedos. Another great highlight of the night was Snoop Dogg joined by Seven Days of Funk, who gave an electrifying 20th-anniversary performance of his breakthrough hit ‘Gin and Juice’ live from the Melkweg.

From wardrobe qwerks to controversial performances with weed being smoked on stage, the European Music Awards surely brought the wild out yet again, do you agree?
