Earlier this week, a diary entry from Bollywood's veteran actor Saeed Jaffrey went viral after being posted on Facebook. While the authenticity of the note is questionable, the message it contained about love resonated with people.
No love story is without its setbacks! So in honour of these love stories, we bring you eight essential features of successful relationships endorsed by celebrities and movies.
As Jaffrey explains in his note, to love someone is to accept them for who they are instead of working to change them. Appreciation brings out the best in people. By dwelling on flaws, you not only remain dissatisfied yourself but are also likely to affect your partner's self-esteem. Bollywood film Mohabbatein reiterates this mantra.
Keep faith in the notion that love comes full circle. Be kind to your partner and do not seek instant reciprocation as each person gives in their own way and at their own time. Bollywood superstar Hrithik Roshan puts the idea in simple words, "When I wanted to feel love, I became love." Selfless love is beautifully reflected in the film Aashiqui 2, a moving scene from the film is pinned below:
When you lead a healthy life by taking care of your eating, sleep and fitness habits, you will be in better position to look after and inspire your partner. Bollywood's it couple, Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor, certainly set a great example for us, enjoying their yoga workouts together.

Whether it is coordination on daily activities or sharing dreams and fears with each other, effective communication keeps partners assured and bonded. Author of over 75 books, Deepak Chopra lists "lack of communication (the refusal to share how you feel and how your partner feels)" as one of the three major obstacles keeping one from a miraculous relationship. Hollywood's ultimate couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, too, stress communication with each other as well as with their children.

Maintaining your independence, meeting friends and enjoying some alone time will allow you to lead a balanced life and bring positivity to your relationship. American talk show host Oprah Winfrey's quote "Don't settle for a relationship that won't let you be yourself" brings home the necessity of being free. American writer Richard Bach's famous saying on love and freedom is profound, indeed:

There are hurdles along the road, on an everyday basis and in the long haul. The answer lies in compromise. American author Sarah Dessen aptly points out, "No relationship is perfect, ever. There are always some ways you have to bend, to compromise, to give something up in order to gain something greater." The final scene from the film When A Man Loves A Woman summarizes the couple's long troubled journey full of compromises.
Keep your romance fresh by doing new activities together. Continue to shower affection for each other through words, gestures and surprises. Relationship coach David Wygant explains the ongoing trend and asks a pertinent question challenging it, "We live in a disposable society, and it's easy to dispose of and write off a relationship that has hit a few snags. The question is, though, how hard are you really trying to reignite the flame?" A scene from The Notebook shows the power of rekindled romance.
Mistakes are part and parcel of life. Holding on to hurt or being revengeful are recipes for disaster. Patience and forgivness are effective remedies for relationship problems. Bollywood actress Neetu Singh, married to actor Rishi Kapoor for over 35 years, shared this relationship tip with her Instagram followers, "A happy marriage is the union of two good forgivers."
