The Jungle Book breaks the Indian box office!
Disney's The Jungle Book came out last week with much fanfare in North America, but a week prior saw the release of its Hindi version, boasting some big Bollywood names as the voices of the iconic characters that we've come to love. Pairing big stars with a story central to India was enough for this film to storm the box office — unlike its Hollywood predecessors.
Disney India said the film has, within its first 12 days of release, grossed $23.7 million (1.57 billion rupees) — now at 24.7 million, making it the highest-grossing Hollywood release in the country ever. Its gross already exceeds the previous record holder, Fast and Furious 7, which grossed a total of $23.4 million (1.55 billion rupees) during its theatrical run last year.
