The 59th Idea Filmfare Awards were Bollywood’s finest hour yet, in fashion and in recognizing celebrity achievements.
The brightest Bollywood stars attended the 59th Filmfare Awards last night and to sum up the styles of the evening, the red carpet was awash in luxurious blacks, midnight blues, and the red/pink/peach spectrum of a perfect sunrise. While most of the ladies kept with the monochrome sleeveless or one-shoulder gowns, or some variation on the traditional sari, a few celebrities dazzled with dramatic necklines or sensually suggestive lace and sheer pieces. The men also brought their best to the red arpet with creative variations on the classic tuxedo, including creative prints and dramatic lapels, to most devastatingly attractive effects.
One woman of the hour, Best Actress (for Ram-Leela) Deepika Padukone looked ravishing in a Gaurav Gupta gold and sheer gown while the hostess with the mostest, Priyanka Chopra drew the audience in a black classic Alexander McQueen design.
Karishma Kapoor donned an traditionally-influenced high-necked Anamika Khanna lace sari that, due to well-crafted illusions, looked like a knee length jacket and skirt. Sophie Choudry, wore a sexy red peplum gown with a sweetheart neckline.
Meanwhile Dia Mirza updated her sari by pairing it with pants.
Priety Zinta looked charming in a one sleeved navy blue gown with asymmetrical ruffles and a big bow.
Amrita Rao also arrived in peach with added black and gold detail, kept it more modest in a three-quarter sleeve sari. While Soha Ali Khan looked gorgeous in a peachy off shoulder gown.
And let’s not leave out the men. While most of the men donned tuxedos for the evening, not everyone wore them as well as Farhan Akhtar in a blue silk printed tux, with his family on one arm, and an award for best actor (for Bhaag Milkha Bhaag) in the other!
Amitabh Bachchan, Salman khan, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh on the red carpet.
Ranveer Singh also pushed the envelope of traditional mens’ wear with his Louis Vuitton silk floral tux, but Salman Khan kept things unconventionally classy with a blue three-piece suit.
Amitabh Bachchan opted for a black tuxedo sharply notched lapels. Shahid Kapoor decked up in neat-cut tuxedos and gel-slicked hair.
