Adoption is usually a heavy-hearted subject that evokes the strongest reactions — particularly in the South Asian community. These celebs do away with everybody's preconceptions!

This dark-haired vixen is the proud mother of two beautiful adoptive daughters: Renée Sen and Alisah Sen. When adopting baby Renée back in 2000, Sushmita Sen soon realized that adoption was no easy feat. She was deemed socially unacceptable for guardianship. However, the High Court of Bombay swiftly withdrew this judgement of her character, and she received sole guardianship of Renée.
Later in 2010, she adopted a three-month-old baby girl and named her Alisah. These two beautiful girls came from backgrounds that weren't promising and have risen from obscurity into Sen's lavish and fun world.

Society often assumes that women are more likely to adopt children. This Bollywood superstar of yesteryear suggests otherwise. He has the most heartwarming of adoption stories — it doesn't centre on the legal process and has a more human face.
Mithun Chakraborty found his adoptive daughter lying in a garbage bin. Overcome with a grand sense of responsibility and purpose, he adopted the young girl and named her Ishani.
3. Nikhil Advani

This renowned Bollywood director who produced Kal Ho Na Ho as well as Salam-e-Ishq — two of Bollywood's most loved productions — adopted little Keya with his wife. Keya was only four years old at the time of the adoption, Nikhil Advani has said that she's the most important thing in the world to him.
4. Angelina Jolie

One of Hollywood's most sought-after actresses, humanitarian and filmmaker Angelina Jolie adopted her first child, Maddox, in 2002 from an orphanage in Cambodia. Her second adoptive child was the six-month-old Zahara Marley, whom she found in an orphanage in Ethiopia. Jolie's adoptive children come from all corners of the globe and were all rescued from lives of uncertainty and brought into a bright future with a world of hope. Brad Pitt later adopted them also, changing their names from "Jolie" to "Jolie-Pitt".
More recently, the couple also adopted a Syrian child amid the horrific conflict — reiterating their devotion to humanitarian causes!
5. Sandra Bullock
