French Actor Olivier Lafont, Who played Suhas Tandon In 3 Idiots, Released His New Book, Warrior
Do you remember Pia Sahastrabuddhe's (Kareena Kapoor) hilarious, over-the-top, materialistic ex-fiancé, Suhas Tandon (Olivier Lafont), wowing audiences around the world in Rajkumar Hirani’s 3 Idiots (2009)? The film also starred Aamir Khan, R. Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, and Boman Irani. It was one of the top-grossing movies of 2009.
The hunky Frenchman Lafont has recently released his new epic fiction novel, Warrior, which was published by Penguin India this past November.
Shortlisted for the Tibor Jones South Asia prize, Warrior is an electrifying, action-packed novel set all over the nooks and crannies of India and beyond. The hero, Saam, a watch mender, is an immortal warrior. Forced by his circumstances, he finds himself in contemporary Mumbai to pick up arms again. He has to face a dire challenge. In an epic journey of three days across India, he finds himself in a land torn by unnatural cataclysms and has to find ways to bring back peace. But the question then becomes: at what personal costs should he indulge his hunger?
In this novel, which alludes to India’s mythology, Saam faces an ongoing battle with Shiva’s only demigod child. Saam, with his six extraordinary companions, rides into the horror of a slowly destructive world to face Shiva. He joins hands with Ara, his untrustworthy half-brother, and his beloved, Maya, to stop the end of the world.
Warrior changes how you see you see Hindu gods, heroes and demons as it interweaves mythology, epic adventure and heroism into a gripping novel.
Lafont has a BA in acting and has made regular appearances on television. He has endorsed brands in 70 commercials. He's now keen to take on more serious film work. He says, “I’d like something kind of dark and fun, something with some heavy-duty, realistic action.”
Prior to the release of his novel, Lafont was published in South Africa, and he has written feature film screenplays before. The first film he wrote was part of the Toronto Film Festival. It won awards at other film festivals around the world.
Lafont explains, “In fact, I’ve recently written a feature film script with myself as the main character. It’s a really fun comedy, something everyone in India can easily relate to and laugh about, and I’m currently looking to partner with a producer for it.”
