VMAS red carpet goes all-out scandalous!
The MTV Video Music Awards, synonymous for its scandalous and plain wacky red carpet moments, took place Sunday, Aug. 30 at the Microsoft theater in L.A. With a host like Miley Cyrus you can guarantee they’ll be at least one outrageous ensemble that’ll snag the spotlight.
And as expected, the VMAS did not disappoint. There was plenty of nipple tucks, thigh-high slits, peek-a-boo’s and brass, in ya face pops of colour as well as glitzy sparkle.
From fierce, to blah and downright outrageous, we present the 2015 VMA’s fashion wrap.
The Fierce List
Rita Ora in Vera Wang
Talk about making an entrance! Rita knocked it out the park when she came clad in this black masterpiece. The gown – a voluminous feathered dramatic number, fit the Brit X-factor judge in all the right places, giving us an eyeful with that incredible plunging neckline and side cutouts – impressive to say the least!
Taylor Swift in Ashish
It was Taylor Nation Sunday night when the multi-award winner hit the carpet with her "girl-power" entourage from the video "Bad Blood". In keeping with the soldier anthem, the singer shed her usual American sweetheart look for a powerful two-piece ensemble that exposed her slim waist. She paired the multi-coloured houndstooth outfit with a bold mod inspired cat eye and slick ponytail Katniss Everdeen would approve of.
Britney Spears in Labourjoisie
She maybe a mom of two, but the pop icon proved just why she's the queen of the crop when she arrived in a silver and gold sequined 2015 limited edition Labourjoisie mini that showed off her toned bod and assets. The singer not afraid to bare it all had the gown shortened for her red carpet moment and played up the look with the on-trend tie-dye ponytail.
Ciara in Alexandre Vauthier
It was all about the fringe appeal for Ciara who came sporting a new sleek bob by celebrity hair stylist Cesar Ramirezon on the red carpet which offset the fierce tribal-esque slashed black dress. The high collar and gold beading against the next-to-nothing, thigh revealing number gets a thumbs up. Kudos to the singer for taking a risk that clearly paid off.
Nicki Minaj in Labourjoisie
Skin tight and floor hugging, this full-length golden Labourjoisie gown gives Jessica Rabbit a run for her money. The peek-a-boo sheer gown featured pearl accents valued at $15,000us that strategically covered the "Anaconda" rapper's famous behind. When it came to hair and makeup the rapper didn't mess around, she stuck with her staple – the jet black bangs and thick winged eye.
The Blah List
Kimye Goes Neutral
Not exactly what we'd expect from the usual fashion-savvy power couple. Being pregnant doesn't mean go boring and for someone whose collecting the year's Vanguard Award we'd hoped for a lil better than a washed out, sweats looking ensemble. Shame on you Kimye!
Justin Bieber – Revamped
While we love the new sleek do, the get-up on the other hand – meh! The once blinged out pop sensation known for his colourful sneakers and flashy jewelry made sure there was no mistaking he's a changed man. All grown up in a button down printed shirt and no major accessory piece in sight, you've gotta admit you kinda miss it right?
Kelly Osborne Funked Out
From a Fashion Police alumni we expected more! While we totally dig the purple mane and punky ear jewels, the pinstripe jumpsuit felt a little out of place. Great for a boardroom meeting but not for the VMA's pre-show host. Where's the spunk, usual funk we've come to love Kelly? Bring it back!
The Outrageous list
Miley Cyrus in Atelier Versace
A pin-up space age vixen clad in metallic bondage straps and jeweled next-to-nothings gave her fans and critics an eye full – literally. Leaving nothing to the imagination but cleverly all in-tact, nipples and butt cheeks were on full display. The 22yr-old singer paired the naughty ensemble with over-the-knee silver metallic boots that featured a gold platform heel that if we're brutally honest, was totally drool-worthy.
Jeremy Scott in nothing but himself
What else would you expect from the designer known for putting SpongeBob on the runway? Loud and proud was the motto for the moonman designer who matched his multi-coloured creation this year.
Amber Rose takes a stand
At first all we saw was a graffiti mess but, if you look a little closer you'll see the model is actually making a serious statement by challenging "Slut-Shaming" with her bodysuit. Choice words such as "SLUT," "STRIPPER" and "GOLDDIGGER" were prominently showcased in bright bold letters.
Z-LaLa A Golden Mess
If there's one way to pluck yourself out of obscurity and demand attention it's by dresing all-out wacky. The American singer made a name for herself as our most outrageous outfit of the night when she came clad in a sequined gold Christian Dior creation. If the head-to-toe shine didn't blind you, the exaggerated puff sleeves coming your way will; and can ya get a load of that cone head? We wonder how much hairspray it took to keep that mane intact.
