Institute Gala Benefit Celebrates China: Through the Looking Glass.
Last night, New York City marked the biggest evening in fashion, formally kicking off the Metropolitan Museum of Art's annual costume institute exhibit titled China: Through the Looking Glass. It's customary for the elite to walk the red carpet — style stars who range from models and designers to singers and actors who make up Hollywood's A-list. Dubbed the Oscars of Fashion, this is the only hot ticket where you’re able to strut your dramatic costume style by showcasing the annual theme. This year’s Costume Institute Benefit Gala at the renowned Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 4, 2015, was just the place to catch all the fabulous fashion action.
Below, we outline the style statements that demanded attention.
Showstopper
Rihanna In Guo Pei
The often scantily clad RiRi surprised us all when she came dressed to impress in this couture yellow fur-trimmed cape adorned with golden floral embroidery, keeping with the theme of the night. The ever-so-long train took three wranglers to control and catapulted the Barbados-born singer to the top of the “wow-factor” pole. And how adorable is the matching head-piece? Rihanna wore a pink dress underneath for a pop of colour that was also pulled into her tiara’s jewels.
Next-to-Nothing
If you’ve got a bodacious bod, then what could be more eye-catching than putting it on display in an ensemble that accents those curves like a second skin? Forget "peek-a-boo!" These bold divas left nothing to the imagination, mimicking Cher all those years ago at the first-ever Met Gala back in 1974.

Class Act
L–R: Amal Clooney in John Galliano for Maison Margiela, Kerry Washington in Prada, Fan Bingbing in Christopher Bu
With costume there can be elegance, and thank the lord for these three beauties who achieved just that last night. Amal wore a custom strapless red silk organza gown that featured an armour–inspired bodice while her skirt contrasted with tiered satin and tulle. Kerry — a vision in pink — opted for a regal satin gown with a high-low hem and a train decorated with floral embroidery. Fan was sheer royalty in an opulent golden high-octane column gown paired with a jewel-tone cape fit for Chinese royalty.
