Schindler's List was based on the Holocaust. It was Steven Spielberg's retelling of Oskar Schindler, the German businessman who saved thousands of lives from concentration camps.
2. Bandit Queen (1994)

One of the most controversial biopics in Hindi cinema, Bandit Queen had some bold content and explicit scenes. This film definitely exhibited the rough life of bandit-turned-politician Phoolan Devi.
3. Erin Brockovich (2000)

Erin Brockovich was the tale of a tough-talking legal clerk who helped bring $333 million worth of justice to a town in California whose residents were being poisoned by their own drinking water.
4. Guru (2007)

Guru depicted the life of business tycoon Dhirubhai Ambani. He was portrayed by Abhishek Bachchan, whose real-life wife, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, portrayed Ambani's partner.

This bold biopic chronicles Harvey Milk, a gay rights activist and the first openly gay politician elected into public office in California. Milk was played by Sean Penn.
6. 127 Hours (2010)

James Franco portrayed Aron Ralston, the daredevil who was trapped by a boulder in Utah's Canyonlands National Park. It was a life-or-death ordeal for Ralston, and surprisingly, the movie was shot in the exact same spot where the real crisis happened.
7. The Dirty Picture (2011)

This film was based on sex siren from yesteryear Silk Smitha, who was played by Vidya Balan. The movie won three awards at the NFAs, including Best Actress for Balan and Best Costume by Niharika Khan.
8. Paan Singh Tomar (2012)

Paan Singh Tomar was played by Irrfan Khan. Tomar was an athlete and seven-time national steeplechase champion. After he retired, he turned into an infamous dacoit.
9. Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (2013)

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag was the story of national champion runner and Olympian Milkha Singh, also known as The Flying Sikh. He was played by Farhan Akhtar. who underwent some serious physical training to excel in the role.
10. Mary Kom (2014)
